NASA is so cool!

here i am in southern mississippi (affectionately known as 'missip'), loving my job and where i live and the culture and everything! it's so cool! right now i am downloading tons of data for my project (and skipping some crazy 'cultural awareness' meeting that is supposed to last for 1.5 hours. whatever! no one has time for that.). last night was crazy-we were on tornado watch for most of it and i have never seen so much lightning in my life. it wasn't so bad, but it was a bit scary when you throw in the possibility of a tornado. actually, one did touch down just east of the CBD in New Orleans and i'm pretty happy to be not living there!

Gulfport is the coolest place ever. i love the beach. plus, since it is so windy being right on the beach, i can run and not sweat to death or get eaten alive by bugs. big yay! i also started swimming at the rec center at stennis so i am the happiest camper ever. and they have a sauna there so i can get warm after freezing to death in my office.

... my office which is huge. it's great and my computer screen is so freakin big that my laptop now seems completely useless. i hate that.

i'm going to go to houston next weekend since jason has got a conference at JSC there. it'll be fun to see him again :D the drive won't be so fun, but i always love to see my bro!

my mum is coming to visit over memorial day weekend. that will be a blast! plus, she gets to come to stennis with me-her first NASA center! seriously exciting. and we can go explore and have fun. i'm sure she will love the 90% humidty that we are getting. :D

i bought running shoes the other day and that was a complete nightmare. the shoes out now really suck, but i did manage to find what i wanted at the mall. slight problem though-i don't wear a 9 or 10. so, i went to the LAST store in the stupid place and at least they had them in the catalog still. so i got to 'special order' them. so much for getting a sale! c'est la vie i guess though. i'm just excited to get my shoes. i couldn't buy any in france because the country has no idea how to make and/or sell functional running shoes, which means that it has been over a year in these old dogs. craziness.

ah yes, on the work front: my project is wikidly cool. we are working with ncar, noaa, dot, and lots of other agencies to tie into their MDSS (maintenance decision support system) for surface transportation. using data from a NASA satellite, we are going to compare our measurements against ground station data to see how/if we can provide better/extended service. it's cutting edge right now as we are about to see surface transportation really peak on regional and national interest levels due to cost restraints and required maximization. anyway, it's neat and i like all the details that we have to muddle through.

rock on. back to data. i miss everyone!

luv.m
