bring it.
what is up! as you can see, my reliable internet connection has definitely helped me become a regular post-er. right! i'm not real sure what's happened between then and now so i'll just ramble for a bit... :D
yesterday i had a swim meet. it was so much fun!! bugger, it's been about 6 years since i swam competitively and i forgot what a rush it is :D needless to say, it is my new big thing and i hope to be more diligent in my workouts. my goal is nationals in may in ft. lauderdale so i've got time and a whole lotta work to do, but i'm so excited!
work is fantastic. we have been so busy and it is pretty much a never ending saga, but y'all know what it is like. i am happy to be doing applicable work where i get to learn tons and work with neat people-still loving it. i do get to go to vegas in march for a conference related to my master's thesis and i am pretty stoked about that too.
i went home to thanksgiving and it was awesome to hang out with my parents-being home is always to great! now i am back at my *other* home and i do love it here-just gets a bit lonely sometimes. last year was just so packed with instant mates and really cool people that it is a bit difficult to adjust. fortunately, i am fantastic at entertaining myself so it really isn't too bad :D
i've actually got to pop off to buy my bro and his wife christmas presents so i'd best go before i get nothing done today! ah, well, that wouldn't be such a bad thing either i guess... i will talk to y'all soon :D
as always,
lots of love,
and laughs,
and hugs....

purple suede kitten heeled mules
:D
okay, enough about my shoes. i am finally working! yay! paychecks can be such a good thing. it has taken quite awhile to get set up here but things are finally starting to come together. all i have to say is, i am about the luckiest person ever to have such a freakin awesome job and live is such a beautiful (and warm) place. that said, i would give anything to go home and sit on the couch with my mummy and daddy and my little doggie. humph.
here on my phone numbers in case you want to call:
home - 228.255.8812
work - 228.688.4937
now that i have a reliable internet connection, i should be better about updating this... maybe even twice a week. oh my. right now i can't write too much because i cut my hand so badly that i can't really type well with it. you know those easy pop-top cans? yea, well, after i evacuated to memphis from hurricane ivan, i was hungry and managed to completely slice my hand (in the web btw my thumb and first finger) and it was so deep. i could see stuff in there! argh. so i didn't go to the ER because i was too afraid to go by myself and have to get stitches... ick, ick, ick. when i got back to work, my boss sent me to get a tetanus shot (which was horrifyingly traumatic!) since i hadn't had one since i was 5. hum. probably a good thing. anyhoo, it's healing slowly....
one more thing - go X prize!!! freakin sweet stuff. but i'm really excited about the new challenge issued to private companies to put an orbiting craft up by the end of the decade... now that will be some wikid times.
i miss everyone from isu! so, if you are reading this, i love you guys. thanks so much for such an awesome year :D i made such good friends and the learning/cultural experiences were so brilliant.... wow.
have an excellent thursday and keep in touch.
most humbly,
in your service,
with lots of love,
and hugs,
and kisses,

ugga bugga
yes, i am a blog slacker! just a quick post though:
NASA still rocks. waiting for data kinda bites and otherwise having to deal with lovely data issues is not at the top of my "happy" to do list, but it goes.
i played softball for the first time ever last week and it was briiliant. i almost scored too! wow. anyway, the game this week is cancelled :( but hopefully we'll play again next week.
swimming at lunch is the highlight of my day. since it is about 33C here everyday, it doesn't matter if it is sunny or not-i still swim and still get a weird tan. but, i mitigate those random tan lines by spending every weekend at the beach. hehe. i am a happy camper here!
i am interviewing loads and trying to land a job at NAVO. Naval Oceanographic Office that is. they do super sweet stuff over there and i would be super stoked to get the chance to be there. NASA is cool too but i think that they are in a bit of a stumble at the moment and NAVO is just a bit more functional ;) lol. how about a million times more functional!
i think that is all for the quick update. i need to get an oil change for my car soon but i am a slacker at that too. about the only thing that i am not a slacker at is swimming everyday. fortunately.
i hope everybody is having fun and enjoying whatever they are doing! i will (attempt to) do a better job of updating this monkey.

NASA is so cool!
here i am in southern mississippi (affectionately known as 'missip'), loving my job and where i live and the culture and everything! it's so cool! right now i am downloading tons of data for my project (and skipping some crazy 'cultural awareness' meeting that is supposed to last for 1.5 hours. whatever! no one has time for that.). last night was crazy-we were on tornado watch for most of it and i have never seen so much lightning in my life. it wasn't so bad, but it was a bit scary when you throw in the possibility of a tornado. actually, one did touch down just east of the CBD in New Orleans and i'm pretty happy to be not living there!
Gulfport is the coolest place ever. i love the beach. plus, since it is so windy being right on the beach, i can run and not sweat to death or get eaten alive by bugs. big yay! i also started swimming at the rec center at stennis so i am the happiest camper ever. and they have a sauna there so i can get warm after freezing to death in my office.
... my office which is huge. it's great and my computer screen is so freakin big that my laptop now seems completely useless. i hate that.
i'm going to go to houston next weekend since jason has got a conference at JSC there. it'll be fun to see him again :D the drive won't be so fun, but i always love to see my bro!
my mum is coming to visit over memorial day weekend. that will be a blast! plus, she gets to come to stennis with me-her first NASA center! seriously exciting. and we can go explore and have fun. i'm sure she will love the 90% humidty that we are getting. :D
i bought running shoes the other day and that was a complete nightmare. the shoes out now really suck, but i did manage to find what i wanted at the mall. slight problem though-i don't wear a 9 or 10. so, i went to the LAST store in the stupid place and at least they had them in the catalog still. so i got to 'special order' them. so much for getting a sale! c'est la vie i guess though. i'm just excited to get my shoes. i couldn't buy any in france because the country has no idea how to make and/or sell functional running shoes, which means that it has been over a year in these old dogs. craziness.
ah yes, on the work front: my project is wikidly cool. we are working with ncar, noaa, dot, and lots of other agencies to tie into their MDSS (maintenance decision support system) for surface transportation. using data from a NASA satellite, we are going to compare our measurements against ground station data to see how/if we can provide better/extended service. it's cutting edge right now as we are about to see surface transportation really peak on regional and national interest levels due to cost restraints and required maximization. anyway, it's neat and i like all the details that we have to muddle through.
rock on. back to data. i miss everyone!

new orleans or bust
i am packing again. i love packing. the only thing better than packing is doing laundry. i love doing laundry.
it was a gorgeous 28C here on monday so i don't want to hear any more crap about all the rain that seattle gets-y'all can just bugger off. of course, today we did have some sort of freak storm that knocked over loads of trees and cut power to tons of people and hailed ridiculously... but, fortunately, i was shopping at ross so it didn't bother me one bit :D
right. back to packing. t-4.5 hours til i have to go. i hate packing!
